Filming of The Tudors

First Season

Filming of the first season of The Tudors began in April or May of 2006.  The production lasted 22 weeks, ending in approximately October of that year.

The series was filmed entirely in Ireland.  Did you know that Ireland happens to be the birthplace of actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers who portrays King Henry VIII?  Jonathan was born and raised in Ireland and talks frequently on talk shows about his experiences there.

Filming of the first season of The Tudors cost an estimated $38 million dollars.

Second Season

Showtime brought The Tudors back for a second season!  Filming began in May, 2007.  Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Natalie Dormer are set to reprise their roles as King Henry and Anne Boleyn.

The second season premiered on March 30, 2008.

Third Season

The Tudors will be back for a third season!  Filming will begin in Dublin in June, 2008.  The third season will involve two more of King Henry's marriages.  Jonathan Rhys Meyers will reprise his role as King Henry.  No word yet on whether he'll be wearing a fat suit.  ;)

The third season premiere will most likely be slated for Spring 2009.

Did You Know?

-  It appears that Callum Blue (Knivert) injured himself pretty badly during the filming of the jousting scene in Episode Four.  It has been said he broke his arm and that is why he did not appear in several of the following episodes.  He was next seen in Episode Seven

-  Filming of the first season was plagued by mosquitoes.  Lucky for the cast, they were frequently covered up in period costumes!
