There has been a lot of rumor that Henry Cavill was originally under consideration to play Edward Cullen in the movie Twilight. Although he was a favorite of author Stephanie Meyer and she thought he'd be perfect in the role (she wrote about it on her blog), by the time the movie production came around - Henry was too old.

Are there any Twilight fans? Do you think Henry would have made the perfect Edward Cullen?

When Henry was asked about it recently - he said:

"What I've heard, or pieced together from various sources, is that Stephenie had seen me in whatever jobs I had done previously, and I was probably perfect then," grinned Cavill, remembering his near-casting. "But then, the ravages of time had taken their toll."

He's too funny.

Personally I'm GLAD he didn't get the role. While I read the books and was mildly entertained by them, some of the fans are RABID about it, and I'd rather see Henry get more serious roles and not be typecast as a teen heart throb. I think he's better than that!

I love Twilight! Henry could have been good in that role a few years ago, before the "ravages of time" . He might have been good to play Carlisle though.

Last I had heard they did want to cast him as Carlisle but he was already committed to The Tudors. It's interesting that Stephenie wanted him to be Edward originally because Henry and Robert are so different. I find Henry to be more "manly", I guess is the word. Robert doesn't seem to have that same type of strength, which isn't a bad thing (he's still gorgeous!) they're just two different types of people.

I too am glad though that Henry is not involved. The fans are insane and he would have had to spend a lot of time trying to establish himself after it was all said and done. I feel bad for Robert who is having to go through this now, besides he'll always be Cedric Diggory to me! haha!
